KARO Architects is a New York City based architectural firm founded by Sebastian Kaempf and Anke Roggenbuck. KARO provides services in urban and architectural design as well as interior and furniture design in the public and private realm. KARO is licensed in New York State, Massachusetts and Germany.

Sebastian and Anke have extensive architectural experience, with inter-disciplinary studies in Germany, Great Britain, and the United States. Their practice focuses on paired joy and interest in the entire architectural process: learning and finding, documenting and analyzing, listening and responding, being confronted and re-thinking, as well as pushing and testing boundaries that become tangible after critical and thorough investigation.

Sebastian's professional experience in design and construction reaches back 30 years starting with a three year apprenticeship as skilled millworker in Germany. He holds a Master of Architecture from the Southern California Institute of Architecture (SciArc) and a Diploma of Architecture (with Distinction) from Westminster University, London. His Diploma thesis was awarded Runner Up for the prestigious RIBA President’s Medal followed by a scholarship of the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), which brought him to the USA in 1996.
He collaborated from 1998-1999 with Randall Stout († 2014) in Los Angeles, from 1999-2002 with Agrest & Gandelsonas Architects, from 2002-2004 with Abelow Sherman Architects. From 2004-2013 Sebastian worked with 1100 Architect as a project leader on a range of residential, commercial and institutional projects within the New York City Metropolitan area and in Frankfurt, Germany. In 2012 he started his own firm SKA, and finally partnered up with Anke Roggenbuck to form KARO Architects. Sebastian is a licensed Architect in New York State and Massachusetts.

Anke earned a Diploma of Architecture (with Distinction) in 2003 from Bauhaus University Weimar at the Department of Architecture.  Previous employers include the offices of Mark Cavagnero Associates Architects, 1100: Architect PC, and CDR Studio Architects PC, where she was invited to become an Associate in 2007 and as Project Manager oversaw a number of key projects from concept through construction. She served as primary client liaison for the Fire Department of New York City (FDNY), the Hudson River Park Trust (HRPT), as well as for the NYC Department of Design and Construction (DDC). In 2012 Anke established and incorporated her own firm as Anke K. Roggenbuck Inc.  Anke holds both German and American citizenship and is a licensed Architect in New York State and Germany.
